When RVs have to go...™
Frequent Asked Questions

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions Answer

Cleaning Rubber Roofs of RVs?

Cleaning rubber roofs of RVs has always been a challenge given the plethora of chemicals that are sprayed and rained down on the roofs including sap from trees.

Yes, there are many manufacturers of cleaning supplies that say, their solution is safe but most don't state the ingredients on their label. EPDM (rubber roof) manufacturers warn you not to use any petroleum based cleaners on the roof or you will void your warranty (most warranties are 10 years) and RVers are caught in the middle!

Needless to say, replacing rubber is an expensive venture that can cost you several thousand dollars.

The simplest cleaning solution that is recommended by most EPDM manufacturers is plain old dish washing soap which does clean most of the grime but not stubborn stains such as tree sap or other chemicals.

Others recommend "Spic and Span" brand and it is a mild soap cleaner with a little abrasion. Both of these should be your first choice (based upon our experience) but if they do not work, or if you have a cleaner on hand but not sure if it is safe, below is a chart that may help you.
